I don't know if this happens to you, but lately I've been guilty of skipping rest.
My brain feels most active at midnight—thinking, coming up with new ideas, planning for the next day—only to wake up tired. The "tomorrow" I planned for ends up unproductive.
The funny thing is, those late-night hours feel productive in the moment. But by the next day, I'm drained. The plans stay on paper, and my energy is gone.
Recently, I've been learning a lesson that I wish I had embraced much earlier: rest is not the enemy of productivity; it's one of its greatest drivers.
Here's why I'm beginning to see rest as progress:
1. Rest Restores Your Energy
Great ideas require great execution. Rest gives your body and mind the energy to turn plans into meaningful action.
2. Rest Sharpens Your Thinking
When we're exhausted, even simple decisions become difficult. A rested mind sees opportunities, solves problems faster, and makes wiser choices.
3. Rest Fuels Consistent Productivity
Working longer doesn't always mean achieving more. Sustainable productivity comes from knowing when to pause so you can perform at your best tomorrow.
4. Rest Protects Your Creativity
I've discovered that some of my best ideas don't come from forcing my brain to work harder. They come after I've allowed my mind to recover.
5. Rest Helps You Show Up at Your Best
Whether you're leading a team, building a business, or serving your family, people need the best version of you—not the most exhausted one.
That's why I'm slowly changing my mindset.
Even an early night can do more for productivity than hours of midnight brainstorming. Rest isn't separate from the plan—it is part of the plan. It is fuel. It is clarity. It is the reason our work makes sense the next day. Even a short nap can change the way we think, work, and show up.
As a new week begins, I'm reminding myself that rest is not a break from progress.
Rest is progress.
This week, I'm making space for rest—not because I want to do less, but because I want to accomplish more.
I hope you'll make space for it too.
